Full ETS Operations Resume on Sungkai–Slim River Stretch Following Overhead Line Repairs, KTMB Continues Stabilisation Efforts

KUALA LUMPUR — KTMB has announced the full restoration of Electric Train Service (ETS) operations on the Sungkai–Slim River route after completing repairs to the damaged electrification infrastructure caused by a fallen tree incident.

The damage occurred at kilometre 268.795 in Perak and significantly affected the overhead power system, breaking 12 cantilever tubes and disrupting the electrical supply required for train movement. As a result, both ETS and KTM Komuter services were impacted.

According to KTMB, all repair works were completed by 10.05am, enabling the reopening of the affected stretch and the resumption of normal services.

Despite this development, KTMB cautioned that temporary delays may still occur as operational adjustments continue.

“We are implementing operational recovery initiatives to restore system stability and ensure that services return to their normal punctual level. We sincerely thank our passengers for their patience and understanding, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,” the operator said.

Passengers have been advised to stay updated through KTMB’s official social media platforms, while enquiries may be directed to the KTMB Call Centre.

The incident underscores the challenges faced by rail operators when environmental factors disrupt key infrastructure components. Repairing electrified rail systems requires specialised technical intervention and safety compliance, something KTMB highlighted as being handled promptly by its engineering team.

With services now reinstated, KTMB is focusing on stabilising train schedules and optimising traffic flow along the affected corridor. The company assured that efforts are being intensified to minimise residual disruption.

Passengers were also reminded to plan journeys with awareness of potential short-term adjustments as operations transition back to full normalcy.

KTMB reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe, reliable and efficient rail services, assuring the public that measures are continuously being strengthened to enhance system resilience.
