Malaysia has voiced strong concern over the rising instability in Yemen, particularly in light of recent reports of unilateral military activities and expanding movements by the Southern Transitional Council (STC) in the eastern regions of Hadramawt and Al-Mahra.
According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia is deeply troubled by indications that such actions may escalate tensions further and endanger Yemen’s fragile security situation. The government cautioned that these developments could jeopardise ongoing peace efforts and derail significant steps taken towards achieving a political settlement.
Malaysia highlighted that the growing uncertainty risks intensifying internal divisions and worsening the humanitarian crisis faced by millions of Yemenis. The ministry stated that continued conflict and unilateral military initiatives would not only disrupt peace efforts but threaten regional stability.
In reaffirming its position, Malaysia reiterated full support for the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC) and the recognised Government of the Republic of Yemen. Malaysia regards the PLC as the rightful authority entrusted to lead Yemen through its transitional phase and oversee peace-building strategies.
Malaysia emphasised the importance of respecting Yemen’s constitutional and political framework and urged all parties to recommit themselves to peaceful diplomatic processes. The government stressed that disputes should be resolved through constructive political dialogue, negotiation and reconciliation rather than military confrontation.
The ministry further underscored that sustainable peace in Yemen can only be achieved through inclusive engagement, compliance with international legal principles and a commitment to reconciliation that involves all relevant stakeholders.
Malaysia reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Yemen who continue to endure prolonged conflict and humanitarian suffering. The government expressed concern over food insecurity, displacement and the strain on essential public services, all of which could deteriorate further if tensions continue to escalate.
Malaysia also commended Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for their continuous diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions and supporting peace efforts. In addition, Malaysia encouraged broader international cooperation to uphold Yemen’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence.
As part of its long-standing commitment to global peace, Malaysia reiterated that the Yemeni conflict must be addressed through peaceful means. The government urged all parties to prioritise calm, stability and humanitarian protection in order to restore normalcy and security for the Yemeni people.
